When to Call

Warning signs after a fracture that need attention, and the difference between routine office contact and an emergency.

Most fracture recovery goes smoothly, but it's important to know the difference between something to mention at your next visit and something that needs prompt attention.

Routine Office Contact

Questions about your activity level, mild expected discomfort, or scheduling should go through our regular office line during business hours.

Call the Office If You Notice

  • Increasing pain that isn't controlled by your prescribed plan
  • New numbness or weakness
  • Fingers or toes that become pale, blue, cold, or very swollen
  • A cast or splint that becomes excessively tight, wet, damaged, or foul-smelling
  • New drainage, spreading redness, fever, or wound concerns

Emergency Evaluation

Seek Emergency Care For

  • Chest pain or shortness of breath
  • Symptoms concerning for a blood clot (such as significant new swelling, warmth, or pain in the calf)
  • Any other life-threatening emergency
Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Do not wait for a callback from the office.

Not Sure If It's Urgent?

When in doubt, call the office. Our staff can help you decide whether you need to be seen right away or can wait for your next scheduled visit.
